As it happens, a graduate student from the University of California at Berkeley is coming to Machala on February 15th to collect material for her thesis. She’ll stay for three months, and we’ll be sharing a flat in town.
A big thank you to my future boss Marco who suggested it!
Interesting how things always seem to work out. I was hoping for the possibility to share a flat with another volunteer or exchange student, but they are apparently rare in Machala. In a way, it’d be good to be thrown off the cliff from the beginning, forced to speak spanish constantly, forced to make local friends, forced to spend some time alone. However, my newfound roommate makes my knees shake a little less at the thought of leaving in less than 1,5 months!
